Lake Balboa Model Yacht Club sails just north of Los Angeles, California at Hanson Dam, 12 months a year. We are affiliated with the American Model Yachting Association (AMYA.org) and welcome other sailors and interested people. Our members build and race radio-controlled model sailboats in specific classes (types of sailboats); most being one meter long. Radio controlled Model Yacht Racing follows the racing rules of sailing and is remarkably similar to full size boat racing. If you want all the excitement, fun and commeraderie of sailboat racing, without seasickness and extraordinary expense, this is the hobby/sport for you.

We sail every 2nd and last Sundays of the month.  You are more than welcome to join us and we will be happy to let you use one of our yachts to experience the fun and excitement of radio controlled sailing.

Some thirty classes are recognized by the American Model Yachting Association (AMYA). This 40 year old national organization was founded to further the development of building, sailing, and racing radio controlled yachts.  The LBMYC is affiliated with this national organization, and during the thirty plus year history of the LBMYC we have been fortunate to host several national championship regattas.

To start sailing is relatively inexpensive if you build your own yacht from scratch, buy a kit and build it yourself or buy a used yacht.  Our club sails several classes.  The US One Meter, ODOM, IOM and Micro Magic , RG65 are the boats we have on our bi weekly schedule for practice racing and regattas
